ANGUILLA
Anguilla, a British overseas territory in the eastern Caribbean Sea, is renowned for its serene ambiance and breathtaking beaches. The island’s main town and administrative hub is The Valley.
Spanning 35 square miles, Anguilla is relatively flat, edged with pristine white sand beaches, and its highest point, Crocus Hill, rises to 210 feet. The island’s name, inspired by the French word for eel, reflects its long, slender shape. Anguilla also encompasses several small, uninhabited offshore islands, including Dog, Scrub, and Sombrero islands, along with the Prickly Pear Cays.
Formed from coral and limestone, Anguilla enjoys a tropical climate, with average temperatures around 28°C (82°F). The island’s wildlife includes land reptiles, sea turtles, lobsters, goats, and a variety of bird species, notably the national bird, the turtledove. Anguilla is also a favored stop for migratory birds.
